Biography:
Paul Studebaker joined Itasca, Ill.-based Putman Media Co. in 1993 and has held roles of progressively increasing editorial responsibility on CONTROL and Plant Services magazines. Previously, he worked 12 years in materials development, process engineering, and process control for magnet alloy production, culminating in the responsibility for directing process control and development of rare-earth magnets for Ugimag Inc., Valparaiso, Ind. He holds BS and MS degrees in Materials Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana, where his DOE-funded thesis research on permeation of hydrogen through austenitic stainless steels contributed to understanding of hydrogen embrittlement of materials commonly used in nuclear power plants. Among his editorial awards is the prestigious Jesse H. Neal award for editorial excellence from American Business Media, the highest journalist award given by the business-to-business press community, for his work on the September, 1996 CONTROL article, "How to Get Your Project Approved."
